Relocation Nova Scotia love to celebrate our successes

Last year a couple we met at The Sandown Emigrate Show Anthony and Jon contacted us about their plans to relocate here after hearing me speak at one of the seminars about life in Nova Scotia.

They were determined to come to Nova Scotia and experience a different way of life.  Our partnership began and after many telephone conversations and emails they finally arrived at Halifax Airport with the intention of never going back!

We had a contact in the trucking industry and through this Jon secured a job as a long distance truck driver and was able to get a two year work permit. Anthony wanted to find somewhere he could live where he could carry on with his career as an artist. Anthony worked with Mark on the task of finding the right rural location for their home and also a working studio for his artistic abilities.

Mark worked tirelessly to find them just the right property in their price range.  The Old Parsonage in Selma in the historic village of Maitland in Hants county was the final choice, a house with a seperate building to be used as a studio. A far cry from Hedge End!

The Community Identified Stream was now a viable option to them and Ant soon became a familiar figure in Maitland, he became president Of the Maitland District Development Agency and he quickly made friends with residents and other newcomers to the area .

The Old Parsonage has now been renovated and Anthony has put his magic touch on…painting and restoring the house to its former glory. It has already been featured on CTV our local television station and part of the Maitland Christmas Homes Tour.

As with many of our clients we have remained in touch and have also become friends.

This couple have had their doubts sometimes about whether rural living in Nova Scotia was what they expected but they have done a remarkable job of adapting to not only the Nova Scotian culture but the sometimes limited resources and amenities that Maitland has to offer. In return Maitland has shown them that small communities can flourish and support newcomers and that working together to attract more immigrants is necessary for the growth of the whole community.

For most of us living in rural England would conjure up images of fields and horses and affluent land owners, country pubs and land rovers. Well rural Nova Scotia is nothing like that. It is a lifestyle choice that lends itself to independent living and also isolation. Most rural areas here have limited amenities, ordering firewood, clearing snow and planning trips to Truro and Halifax to buy essential supplies are now routine but were once daunting tasks .

Anthony and Jon made a trip back to UK on a holiday this year but it only served to sever their ties there and cement their alliance with Relocation Nova Scotia as Anthony’s vision to encourage new growth along the shore and into the 215 highway and Hants county area has resulted in him founding a new group named SHORE….

Emigrating to a new life gives every immigrant the chance to make a difference to themselves, their family life and also an opportunity to give back to the community they live in, something which is missing in Uk the feeling of belonging and the feeling that we can make a difference. We will continue to support the SHORE group and Anthony and Jon in their vision to keep Maitland on the map.
